The Green in…Nick Crocker – Q&A
What’s your personal elevator pitch/introduction?
I’m Nick, I’m an Australian entrepreneur. Some of my projects have been co-founding the popular online music chart WeAreHunted.com and Native Digital. I was a Product Manager in New York for internet-TV startup Boxee. I am a runner and writer.
Tell me about an interesting green initiative you’ve heard about or worked on.
I love Tom’s Shoes and Warby Parker, profitable businesses that create amazing products that also provide those in need.
How are you green in your daily life?
I fly way too much to really be seriously green. This is something I can’t really reconcile, because I have a partner here in Australia and I am based mostly in the US. So the environment’s paying the price for our long distance love. And I have two showers a day. But those are my bad bits. I don’t have a car, I ride a bike, I don’t have a TV or a fixed location so I don’t suck lots of electricity out of the earth and I have a hippie Mum who keeps me in check.
How often do you think about green issues?
Every day. It’s something you can’t help but think about.
Who inspires the green in you?
My upbringing, having spent so many holidays camping and in the bush. When you know that experience it’s pretty terrifying to think that might not be available to me kid’s kids if we don’t act consciously to preserve the future.
