There is nothing better after a week of red pollution suns and bureaucracy in Beijing to sit down with a beer and trawl through designs from startups like Artecnica.
I came across these guys, through my FAVOURITE website in the world, Unconsumption. Artecnica:
is committed to considering issues of environmental sustainability and responsible manufacturing. Products are often made with recycled materials and transported in easy-ship flat packages to help reduce our carbon footprint. And our Design with Conscience® program works with artisan communities in developing countries to produce unique handcrafted objects that reflect indigenous skills. This humanitarian approach supports shared work and profit across borders, cultures, races, and religions. Here again, design acts as a catalyst for change, providing an opportunity to help transform the global landscape.
Their Billboard Project is my favourite of their Design with Conscience® programs. They have designed three products in this program all from using old advertising material. Their Stretch bags, “made from 100% colorful advertising campaign billboards, a clever die cut, no glue, no stitch shoulder bag is Inspired by the strength and symmetry found in nature”, are just awesome. Other designs for this project are cork cases for Ipads and laptop cases.
Ad agencies should be hiring these guys from the word go, to clean up their client’s mess. Check out their cool designs below.
